Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Trajet 2014 -- Vinous 93 Points
This is a new bottling for the winery, produced by winemaker Steve Ryan. It is meant to showcase whole-cluster character. It does so with great effect and flavor. The wine is darkly fruited, with blackberries, black raspberries and black plums, and is suffused through with minerals and hints of smoke and tobacco. The whole clusters lend a sappy texture to the wine, and significant fine structure that ensures a long life in the cellar. This is a big-scale wine that should be laid down for a year or three, and that will provide delicious drinking through at least 2025.
From Vinous: "(made with 80% whole clusters and 70% new French oak) Limpid ruby-red. Powerful, smoke- and spice-accented red and dark berry preserve, vanilla and lavender pastille scents show wonderful clarity, picking up notes of oak spices and cola with air. Sweet and expansive on the palate, offering concentrated but lively black raspberry, cherry cola and spicecake flavors that show excellent delineation and a touch of smoky minerality. Weighty yet graceful, delivering solid closing thrust and silky, slowly building tannins that fold steadily into the sappy fruit. -- Josh Raynolds."
