Hundred Suns Pinot Noir Shea 2016 -- Pinotguy 94 Points
Regular price $60.00
Hundred Suns is the bootstrap micro-winery by former Beaux Freres winemaker Grant Coulter and wife Renee Saint-Amour. After nine years in the cellar with Beaux Freres winemaker Mike Etzel, Coulter is now crafting some juicy, richly-fruited wines that are making friends very quickly indeed. Like other past Beaux Freres winemakers, Coulter is moving in his own direction now, and the results are delicious.
The 2016 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard shows off all the broad-shouldered, mineral-infused blue-black fruit character that makes Shea a top vineyard, but it retains a juicy and balanced character, avoiding the "over done" style that some producers churn out with Shea fruit. The perfectly measured winemaking makes this wine a paragon of intensity, but that allows the fruit to work in harmony with the structural elements. This is a delicious wine that can be approached now, perhaps with extended decanting, and that can be successfully cellared for about as long as you want to wait.
