Spectacular Quality-to-Price ratio!
Winemaker Jay Somers has been making Oregon wine since the late 1990s, and then partnered with international wine star and bon vivant Ernest Loosen -- yes, that Loosen. With that deal he got a shiny new winery, and the quality of his wines jumped up a LOT. Now he's regularly garnering big scores for his pure, hand-made, authentic wines. But he's never made a wine for $35 that is as good as this one!
The 2015 Volcanique bottling showcases the prime volcanic soils on the slopes of the Chehalem Mountain AVA. Bottling wines by soil type is becoming a trend, and this is an terrific example.
This has received a Wine Spectator 93 Points with these notes: "Expressive raspberry, orange peel and violet aromas open to refined cherry and black tea flavors that take on structure and richness toward polished tannins. Drink now through 2025. -- TF"
