Winery owner and winemaker Jeff Meader had some property taken from him by the City of Portland, via the eminent domain process. Making lemonade out of lemons, Meader bought some land in the famed Ribbon Ridge AVA and started Eminent Domaine - you see what he did there, right?
The winery has grown steadily and the products are of high quality. It's been limited in some past vintages, but growth now allows somewhat easier access to the wines.
This 2016 bottling is a terrific example of the great 2016 vintage, featuring a rich, broad palate of juicy fruit flavors that run the gamut from mid-red to blackberry. It has a classic, layered mid palate, and a complex and long finish. Like many of the '16s, it is quite approachable now, but also has the weight to age well for those with patience. Drink or hold.
This wine was awarded a Wine Spectator 94 Points with these notes: "Polished and expressive, but impeccably structured, with rich raspberry and smoky, dusky spice flavors that dance toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2025."
