Oregon is currently in the throes of adjusting to younger and newer winemakers who don't or won't (or cannot afford to) make pinot noir. These folks get a lot of press from younger, newer wine writers who need something to write about. But it's all just sound and fury, signifying nothing. Pinot noir still rules the roost here, and that's not changing anytime soon. And the best pinot noir in Oregon comes from the Northern Willamette Valley - hence the name of this wine. It's part of a larger lineup of bottlings that focus on the various AVAs of the North Valley, with this bottling being a blend of them all.
From Vinous: "Deep red. Mineral- and spice-accented aromas of ripe red berries, incense and fresh flowers take on a hint of smokiness with air. Shows very good focus and lift in the mouth, offering juicy raspberry, cherry cola and floral pastille flavors and a subtle touch of spicecake on the back half. Closes sweet and very long, delivering sneaky tannins and strong floral persistence. For an entry-level bottling, this is an awfully strong showing."
